Events That Shaped My Life
Some risks I had to take was being the first person to reach Mt. Everest's summit. The second person was my friend and buddy who help me achieve my goal. On the way up we both helped each other through out the journey. It took a long time and a lot of hard work. We had 8 camps on the mountain.
Another thing is I had to go up a 40 foot straight up glacier. This was the toughest part to climb on Mt. Everest. I think that inspires young climbers everywhere. Now on the mountain there are ladders and stuff to help you get up the glacier, but I did it all by my self. On the point where I first stepped on the summit they named it the Hillary Step.

Backround Information
I, Edmund Hillary was born on July 20, 1919 in Tuakau, New Zealand which was my home town. In social studies you learned about New Zealand but I know that you guys probably didn't learn about this unpopular town. You probably thought that once you knew who I was you thought that I was interested in mountaineering right when I was born but as a young boy I was not even interested in mountaineering. I was actually interested in reading books. No, I am not a nerd. It's just that it was my source of entertainment when I was young.
When I was reading books in bed my sister would pull a string to let me know that my dad was coming and I would put away my book and turn of the light and pretend to go to sleep. It worked out really well. My dad never found out. I still don't know why he doesn't like me to read but he didn't. Another thing you probably thought about me was that I was born big and bulky, but when I was young I was skinny because all I did was read.
